Vacation Recap Part 3

On our last full day in San Diego, we slept in a little, got breakfast at the same restaurant, and then moseyed into the gift shop to buy some maps. We really weren't sure what we wanted to do. We had tossed around the idea of going to Sea World, but I felt like that would be more enjoyable with the kids. So, I asked the lady behind the desk where the maps were. Come to find out, she used to be a concierge for another hotel and she started telling us about all kinds of places to go and things to do and where to eat. We decided to drive to Coronado Island and check it out. She said that we would have an impressive view of San Diego's sky line, and she was right!

This is the pier for the ferry that would take you to downtown San Diego.

San Diego is home to a Naval base so the port was full of Navy ships like this aircraft carrier.

We walked around the area a little. This is one of the hotels by the beach. Funny note: as we walked along the beach, there were all these Mexicans dressed up in tuxes and dresses, and the there would be one main girl in a HUGE puffy dress (brightly colored like purples and hot pinks that reminded you of the dresses people wore to prom in the 80's) with professional photographers running around taking their pictures. It looked like weddings, really. The girl would hold a bouquet and there was a boy wearing a matching tux...weird.

If you look closely through the fog, you can see the mountain range in the distance. When we would watch the weather, they would have 4 different forecasts for the San Diego area: the bay, inland, the mountains, and the desert.

This is the ferry.

Some guy stopped us and asked if we would take his picture with his girlfriend/wife. I asked for the same favor and forgot to take the camera off manual. He ended up focusing on the skyline rather than us!

More skyline...

After walking around a bit, we decided to rent bikes and ride around the island. This is a view of the bridge we came over when coming to the island. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the bridge is expansive and it's almost like riding a roller coaster in how high the bridge goes up and then curves in. Come to find out, it's like that so the aircraft carriers can get under the bridge.

When we first started riding our bikes we were following a map to get to the main hotel on Coronado. We missed a turn and ended up riding our bikes down a street like I-75. We were on a designated bike path, so there was no danger of us getting hurt, but we should have known something was up when everything became just sand and buildings. We were riding past the naval base where Top Gun might have been filmed.

We eventually corrected our paths and managed to get to the hotel. We parked our bikes and walked around a bit. We ate lunch at a cute little pasta place.

Yes, I wore a skirt and rode a bike...not an easy task mind you, but I had no idea we were going to ride bikes on this day...

We toured parts of the surrounding neighborhoods...

The landscaping there is just unbelievable. Big houses and little houses alike would have amazing flowers growing EVERYWHERE! (I was too afraid to take pictures of people's houses, so this is the only one I really got)

Some of the Navy's planes would fly overhead, and Ray would tell me to get a picture!

We came back to the beach. It was an awesome beach...huge and soft, clean sand.

This is a close-up of the stuff growing on the sand dunes...I was surprised to see that they were flowers.

My poor sunburned feet in the Pacific Ocean...

This was supposed to be a picture of both of our feet, but Ray wouldn't really cooperate and then a wave came in.

This is the Hotel del Coronado.

Here are our very cute bikes that just happened to match my outfit! (And the fact that Ray and I matched...totally coincidental!)

I took a self-portrait of my wind-blown hair while waiting for Ray to come out of the potty!

Just a house along the way. Right across the street is a golf course.

And that's the end of the tour. We went back to our car, stopped at the grocery store for some food & stuff, headed back to our resort where we sat in the hot tub for a while, and then built our fire and ate our dinner. And, just like the day before, there just wasn't any part of this day that I didn't just l.o.v.e.
