I did take pictures of Jo Ann and her family, which I will post soon, but today I will share the pictures I took for the class...
This week was about finding the light and putting all the components of the past two weeks together...this was using open sky light, when the subjects are in shade but looking out into the light. They are a bit squinty, so I should have pulled them back into the porch more...
This next one was to kill three birds with one stone: a picture for this class, my Christmas card photo, and using a backdrop for the first time. But, Hannah is slightly out of focus (a trend for me for the week) and I chopped off Emily's feet.
Then, we had to use shutter speed to either show motion or freeze it. Great. Got that (don't worry; Hannah wasn't hurt! She was just concerned if she got her hair dirty!!). But it's dark.
And then we had to use our aperture to take a creative shot. I wanted to use a wide aperture and fill the frame with Avery's face. Good. Got that, but my custom white balance was wonky...
So, I guess this week is just a heaping dose of humility...
But, on the bright side, I did receive two pep talks: one from Mom and one from...RAY!! I know, sounds weird, but he called while I was at Jo Ann's to see how things were going, and when I told him how nervous I was about the turn out of the pictures, he tried to boost my confidence. He even told me that he thought I had the knack for this; it was just a matter of time and practice before I "got it". He even told me I was an artist...

I agree with Ray completely, but you need to be patient and let yourself hone your craft. That is why you are taking a class. Be free to experiment and learn from every photo- the successful ones are awesome, but the ones where we see what we could do better, are the ones that teach us-they are really the most valuable.
BTW I really liked the one of the girls posing with the HO HO letters.
